Thomas Lappano

Thomas Lappano majored in Drawing and Painting at OCAD University and received his BFA in 2017. Currently based out of Toronto, he finds much of his inspiration within the everyday happenings that occur within his own life and surroundings. Using subjects and visual material collected from the everyday as jumping off points, his aim is to create work that can encourage discussion on broader topics as the viewers impart their own subjective readings onto each painting. This series explores the portrait as a narrative. Each painting is meant to be a snap shot of a moment – frozen in anticipation, but also devoid of it’s original context. In doing this, the portrait is removed from any concrete meaning and the viewers may begin to speculate about narrative and bring their own meanings to the work.
