Jill Birks
Jill Birks creates spontaneous abstracts by layering, glazing and scraping to achieve a spontaneous balance of color, line and shape. She incorporates ‘legacy’ paints and inks inherited from an aunt and her mother, which are inspiring. These works are intuitive with a focus on grounded reflections of summers at Lake Huron, to a deeper consideration of the earth’s natural power and wonder. Onto endless possibilities, while humankind continues our exploration of the universe.
Jill studied literature, then fine art before apprenticing and working as a scenic painter and muralist. Having painted professionally for many years, her commissions reside in casinos, hotels, restaurants and event spaces in Canada and the United States. Her art also adorns the interiors of numerous homes.
